 CRITICAL THINKING

MY CULTURE LITERACY

My sister lives in the USA and she talks to me about American culture.

Living in the United States is a fascinating and diverse experience. Every day, I find myself surrounded by a vibrant mix of cultures, reflected in the people, the food, and the celebrations we enjoy. From the skyscrapers of New York to the sunny beaches of California, there’s an energy and rhythm that never cease.

Our society values individual freedom and opportunity. The "American Dream" is a deeply ingrained idea: the belief that with hard work and determination, anyone can achieve success. This mindset fosters a dynamic entrepreneurial culture and a spirit of innovation visible everywhere, from the tech giants of Silicon Valley to small family-owned businesses.

Diversity is one of our greatest prides. Walking the streets of any city, I hear a symphony of languages and see a blend of traditions that have intertwined to form a unique culture. Festivals like Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July, and Halloween are occasions where we come together to celebrate and share our stories.

However, it’s not all rosy. Like anywhere else, we face challenges and engage in debates on important issues such as social justice, economic equity, and climate change. These discussions are part of our vibrant democracy, where freedom of expression and civic participation are fundamental pillars.
